One thing we know better then anything in preparation for this trip…the notion of saving
Saving can often be a daunting task. Particularly when you love shopping as much as we do! So ill fill you in on my experience of saving thus far;
I'm more of a spend as I go sort of person, so I've never had much in e way of ' savings'. When I decided I wanted to go on this trip and Canada/America for another two months following this trip, I knew I had to buckle down and save my little tush off. Thankfully I'm OCD when it comes to planning things so we started with;
Estimating our budget;
-Extras (Galapagos, Machu Picchu)
Basically I find the easiest way to do this is by getting on th computer and looking up prices. This is for flights, hostels im each major city, and food costs to get an accurate idea of how much we will need. We also have a friend who lives in South America who gave us a good indication on how much we should need per month.
With a per month approximation, we times that by the time we were planning on staying (3months for me) and (4 months for sal) and worked out the minimum amount of money we will need.
I then worked out how much money I earn in an average week, and decided that I needed to put away $500 per week to save the amount we worked out above and to still have miney left over as a base for my trip to canada. Which meant I had to cut down my spendings ASAP!
As soon as I got paid each week I put the $500 away. Any weeks that I earnt more then normal (worked weekends) I put that away too. Before you know it your savings are growing! I now have more money saved then I ever have and it feels good!
